Place Value
Skill One. Being able to identify the digit in a given location, and state the value of a number.
When you are asked to identify different numbers in this unit you may be asked to identify the digit or the value. For example in this example above the number 8 is in the thousands position. However sometimes you may be asked what place a number is at. For example what number is in the millions place? 2.
You are required to solve these twenty problems, ensuring you can correctly identify these two important concepts. Click HERE to access your work.
CHALLENGE. If you have finished the above tasks, apply your skills to answer THESE problems.

Ways of representing numbers.
There are three main ways that you should be able to comfortably represent seven digit numbers. They include written form, digit form and expanded form.
When you click on THIS link, you will see a sheet that has a table on it. You are to turn to the next clear page in the maths section of your exercise book and rule the table up. You then need to fill in all the missing information in the table.
Once you have completed that task and Mr Hayward or I have checked over it, you are to complete THIS investigation into real life large numbers and why they are important.

Working with Expanded Notation or 'Powers of Ten'
Mathematicians use exponents to represent big numbers, because it is very easy to make a mistake when you are trying to count seven zeros. You are required to solve the following exponents in your maths book. I want you to write the exponent, write out the long multiplication problem and then finally tell me the answer.
Please click HERE to access the exponents I would like you to work with. HINT: does a pattern become clearer if you write these numbers out in order.
Once you have completed this task I would like you to write a sentence on the Padlet below, telling me what patterns you identified whilst completing this task.
